This study explores the phenomenon of fear of failure among student-athletes and its impact on their performance, well-being, and overall experience in sports. Conducted as part of a postgraduate research project, the study used a qualitative approach with an interview method to collect data from participants. Thematic analysis revealed five major themes: impact of fear of failure on performance, coping mechanisms, pressure from coaches and teammates, influence of team dynamics, and the role of experience and positive feedback. Findings indicate that fear of failure often negatively affects performance by causing hesitation, poor decision-making, and reduced confidence, while also contributing to anxiety and stress. However, in some cases, it acts as a motivational factor. Participants reported various coping strategies such as mental preparation, meditation, visualization, and seeking social support. Supportive team environments and positive feedback were found to reduce fear, whereas pressure and negative dynamics intensified it. Additionally, experience played a key role in helping athletes manage fear more effectively. The study highlights the importance of fostering supportive environments and developing psychological coping strategies to enhance both performance and mental well-being among student-athletes.
